US creating programs to treat Asian problem gamblers
March 12th, 2009
California’s OPG (Office of Problem Gambling) responds to the Sacremento Bee coverage of lack of services for Asian problem gamblers. Terri Sue Canale, director of the state OPG, will propose the plans at the California Gambling Control Commission meeting today.
In late April, Neng Vang of Sacramento Area Congregations Together, a group which seeks legislation to control casino advertising, says different Sacramento Southeast Asian groups will come together to discuss problem gambling.
Canale says: “The state’s new programs could be running by December. Once treatment is available, the state hotline, 1-800-GAMBLER, can offer services in different Asian languages.”
