Poor Atlantic City earnings causing layoffs
Revenues from casino gambling in Atlantic City have worsened in recent years because of the economic conditions, competition from online casinos and neighbouring states in the last 2 years, the revenue deficit is now causing people to lose their job.
The Borgata Hotel & Spa last Monday announced that they will drop 3 percent of their total workforce. That means that at least 200 employees will be fired by the casino. Representatives say it is something that needed to be done. Dave Coskey, Vice President of Marketing said in a statement: “In our efforts to improve efficiencies within our business, we are adjusting our staffing levels to be commensurate with current business levels. In addition, we’ve taken certain steps, including the consolidation of some departments and functions. These efforts result in a reduction of about three percent of our total workforce.”
It is not the first time and it will certainly not be the last time that casinos in Atlantic City need to lay off workers. The casino gambling city has been struggling with reduced revenue levels the last months, and due to competition from the many online casinos and competition from neighbouring states it is difficult to attract customers. Atlantic City last week announced a coalition between casinos with a combined turnover and customer base that will exchange ideas and work to reinvigorate the city.
