Malaysia wants to get rid of online casinos
Home minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein of the ministry of Malaysia is taking the battle against online casinos worldwide, after internet casino gambling becomes a real problem for Malaysia.
Minister Hishammuddin said: “This operation will be led by me personally because this involves many agencies such as the police, Bank Negara, and embassies of other countries, we are looking at tackling crime overall, and an operation like this can at once cover four or five issues.” He is trying to get rid of money laundering and organized crime, two areas linked with illegal online gambling. Between January and May the Malaysian police raided over 2.900 gambling operations and arrested 2.600 people in the raids. Like a lot of other countries Malaysia believes that making gambling online illegal is a step closer to less crime, but the countries where gambling is regulated crime percentages are at its lowest. Hishammuddin needs the help of many leaders to succeed in his mission, but he might have a hard time finding one, because many countries are moving toward legalizing internet casinos instead of outlawing them.
