Casino crime wave in South Dakota

November 25th, 2010

Police in Rapid City, South Dakota has made an arrest which hopefully means the end of a series of robbery’s on casinos in the state. In the last eight days, five gambling companies become victims of armed robbery.

On Monday night the police raided four different houses, a car and arrested the 50-year-old Daniel Gillen. According to police, the public was of great importance in the investigation and more arrest are expected in the casino robbery case. The police said the last robbery was isolated from the series of raids. The series of robberies began at the Joker’s Casino on Mt. Rushmore Road and the police hope that the attack on Happy Jack is the last. Steve Allender, Chief of Police in Rapid City, said: “Detectives are working nearly around the clock to get this whole thing wrapped up. But I think the important thing to know is that this particular crime spree appears to be at its end.”

When the police presented the warrant to Gillen, they found a Methamphetamine lab in his house. Allender said: “It’s not what we expect to find. But we found it, and it’s hard to tell if meth is the most important issue in the case.” What the biggest concern for police is, is that people may think that it is an easy way to make money and copy the casino gambling robbery’s. But the police chief says that these people will end up like Daniel Gillen.

Allender has had talks with the casinos in the state about safety. He expects more arrests in the coming days.
