Funds problem gambling restored

The Missouri House Budget Committee has restored funding for a counselling program for problem gamblers.

Late Wednesday evening the full budget committee agreed on chairman Icet’s request to restore the counselling program at its current funding level of $499.745. Under state law one cent of each two dollar casino admission fee paid by casinos is for problem gambling programs. That funding, however, requires annual approval by the General Assembly.

Missouri Gaming Commission states that 13.722 Missourians banned themselves for live from state’s casinos since the program, which includes free counselling was started in 1990.

US creating programs to treat Asian problem gamblers

California’s OPG (Office of Problem Gambling) responds to the Sacremento Bee coverage of lack of services for Asian problem gamblers. Terri Sue Canale, director of the state OPG, will propose the plans at the California Gambling Control Commission meeting today.

In late April, Neng Vang of Sacramento Area Congregations Together, a group which seeks legislation to control casino advertising, says different Sacramento Southeast Asian groups will come together to discuss problem gambling.

Canale says: “The state’s new programs could be running by December. Once treatment is available, the state hotline, 1-800-GAMBLER, can offer services in different Asian languages.”

PartyGaming sees profit sky rocket

Online gaming company PartyGaming reported their earnings over 2008. They reported an annual earning of 90,2 million pounds, which is a rise of more than 55 percent over 2007. Chief executive Jim Ryan said: “PartyGaming’s business model was “flexible and robust” and able “to generate strong cash flow.”

PartyGaming’s net revenue for the year 2008 grew to 344,33 million pounds and earnings per share grew 55 percent to 18,13 cents. PartyGaming said that although overall earnings went up, poker earnings went down because of heavy competition and currency fluctuations.
